In response to the growing need for adopting sustainable production practices, Sierra y Selva Exportadora, backed by SIPPO Peru, has conducted a series of workshops focused on the opportunities of sustainable trade. These workshops, held from May 6 to 10, 2024, in Lima, Oxapampa, and Satipo, aim to raise awareness among stakeholders, companies, organizations, and other actors about emerging trends in the international market, where the demand for products from environmentally friendly sources is increasing.

The primary goal of the training was to redirect the focus of organizations and companies towards adopting sustainable practices throughout their value chains. During the sessions, various strategies and methodologies for implementing sustainability in product production and marketing were discussed, adapting to the demands of international markets.

Additionally, a hybrid workshop was held for specialists, branch managers, and commercial managers of Sierra y Selva Exportadora. This session discussed the role of Business Support Organizations (BSOs) in promoting sustainability within their associated organizations. As a result, the development of a strategic guide was initiated to help organizations effectively address sustainability in their operations.

These activities are part of SIPPO's effort to support the implementation of the new intervention approach of the Agromercado program and the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI). This approach considers sustainability as a fundamental strategic axis in the commercial articulation of family farming, adapting to new market contexts and demands. Notably, the conference held in Lima was attended by the Ambassador of Switzerland to Peru, Mr. Paul Garnier, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Mr. Ángel Manero, and the President of Sierra y Selva Exportadora, Mr. Luis Llanos.

The initiative highlights the importance of sustainable practices not only as a means to protect the environment but also as a strategy to access markets that increasingly value ethically and responsibly produced goods. Through these training sessions, the competitiveness of Peruvian organizations and companies in the global market is expected to be strengthened, while simultaneously promoting sustainable development and the conservation of natural resources.

SIPPO Peru thus reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and capacity building in value chains, providing key tools and knowledge so that Peruvian producers can face challenges and seize the opportunities offered by sustainable trade.
