Medical care
Highly trained medical professionals, reputed hospitals and top medical institutions help make the Swiss healthcare system among the best in the world. Approximately 11.5 % of the gross domestic product is spent on healthcare. A dense network of hospitals, medical and dental practices, and pharmacies ensures universal access to out-patient and in-patient care. For every 100,000 inhabitants, there are 130 general hospitals, 191 specialized hospitals and clinics, 205 physicians in private practice, 52 dentists and 22 pharmacies. Emergency medical care by ambulance or helicopter (Rega) is well developed and functions professionally. The organization called Spitex provides residential medical care in one’s own home.
