Health insurance

The basic health insurance that all persons residing in Switzerland are required to carry guarantees access to good medical care. It covers medical treatment in the event of illness and in the event of accidents if treatment is not covered by accident insurance (even in foreign countries in some cases). Nonetheless, health insurance is not government insurance but is offered by 94 private insurers (health insurance funds). Supplemental insurance is optional.
