Sustainable and Fair Tourism
The year 2007 exceeded the expectations for international tourism with arrivals reaching new record figures close to 900 million which corresponds to a growth rate of 6%. Tourism is a major factor in the war on poverty. For most developing countries, it is their largest single export and major driver of jobs, investment and economic transformation. Tourism must be allowed to grow responsibly in these states. Governments have to guarantee that suitable instruments are available to protect nature and environment while making tourism attractive. SIPPO supports these efforts by helping selected companies to show their responsible approach to tourism at trade fairs in Europe and Switzerland.
