Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey

since 2002. In 1968 she obtained her Lizentiat (or Master’s degree) at the IUHEI in Geneva. She ran an SME in the book trade for 20 years. In 1979 she joined the Geneva Socialist Party of which she was president for two terms of office. After her election in 1997 to the Government of Geneva, she took responsibility for the finance department in 1998. On 4 December 2002, Micheline Calmy-Rey was elected to the Federal Council, where she took responsibility for the Swiss Department for Foreign Affairs. In 2007 she was Federal President.
