Jean-Daniel Gerber is Director of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) in the Federal Department of Economic Affairs.

Born in 1946, Jean-Daniel Gerber studied Economics at the University of Berne and has worked in the service of the Federal Government since 1973. His posts have included Head of the Economic, Financial and Commercial Office of the Swiss Embassy in Washington, Chief of Section for Developing Countries in the then Federal Office for Foreign Economic Affairs (BAWI), Executive Director in the World Bank Group and Director of the Federal Office for Refugees (now: Federal Office for Migration) in the Federal Department of Justice and Police. Jean-Daniel Gerber is married and has two children.
